The life of Kayam Singh was very disturbing and painful as he was belonging to a snake charmer family and in the village in which he resides, the government over that outlawed the occupation of snake charming. Due to this, they lost their only source of earning and people in the village too started treating them as untouchables and discriminated against them based on their community.

He has seen this from his young days when his father used to beg for food and work. He felt helpless as nothing worked out. Many years ago Dr B.R.Ambedkar has made theological precepts that support the concept that the caste system must be contested in order to end caste discrimination. He considers that everyone should have access to equality, and everyone should benefit from wealth.

Introduction

He was born in a family where his father and mother used to beg for food. He has seen poor days from his young days and by the age of 12 he got married and took over his father’s work.

He had 4 siblings in the family and none of them are educated. His mother was always with his father and supported him in everything. After his father passed away his mother has been looking after everything.

Where does he reside?

He resides in the village of U.P. named Sakalpur where most of the snake charmer family lives. Due to the outlawing of snake charming practice, they support each other in work and provide help. He lives in a hut which was in poor condition. There was no extra stuff in the house which could be useful for them. His home was a simple construction with four walls made of perishable material and a roof.

All about him

Kayam Singh had a dark complexion and impressive features and answered in a very polite manner. He was the type of person who didn’t worry much about things and remains cool. He is mature and understanding. He is a beggar by force as he is not allowed to work with other caste people. He holds abilities but due to a lack of resources, he cannot do any work. But he believed that if we want others to treat us well we should treat them in a good way. He never laid back to help others. He accepted the fact of life.

He preferred homemade food especially, curry and rice was the favourite. He even liked paneer curry but they cannot afford to eat it frequently. His mother begs around and whatever food or money she gets from that she cooks food for the family. And whatever his mother cooked was his favourite. He has been to certain places for outings as he enjoyed exploring new places and now with growing age, he has stopped travelling.

He was fond of shooting in sports and if he would have got enough resources and training he thinks he would have become one of the best shooters. He was even fond of watching movies and movies that starred Sunny Deol were his favourite.

The incident that took place

It was a time when he was young and life taking incident happened in the village. A snake came into the house of some farmer. Some villagers went to see it and his elder brother who had a good understanding of catching snakes.

He was suggested not to go as he was intoxicated at that time. But he didn’t pay attention and went to catch the snake but the snake bit him and no one knew how to get rid of the poison and he died on the spot. The incident also shocked and depressed his family. And after that, things kept increasing for the family and it increased the grief of Kayam Singh Nath.

Education & Understanding

He believed that education is very important and having knowledge in life can make a person’s future bright and he will be able to earn better money. They will get a proper job, so he said that he doesn’t mind whether his children complete graduation and try for better job opportunities but that was not favourable in their case as they don’t have caste certificates which are very essential. By this, they can get certain benefits from the government.

Subject of knowledge

He has to say that one should always obey their elders as their advice and guidance would help us to lead a better life. They might scold but their intention is our betterment only.

They can provide us right advice based on their experience. And also a person should spread peace and love everywhere. Always stay hopeful in life and by that we will be able to stay positive towards our objective.
