A poor person also works as hard as every middle-class person, sometimes even harder, but things are very different for them as the living condition is poor and they lack basic facilities in their life. They are not educated so they don’t get any proper job and their source of income is also not that stable.

They cannot even afford new clothes so whatever clothes they get from others and are in good condition they prefer to wear them on festivals and occasions.

But apart from so many difficulties, they choose to stay happy and we can always see a smile on their face. But most importantly a person whether rich or poor needs a family’s love and care.

Introduction of jelly ben

This is the story of an old age lady who is not fortunate with destiny and is in her 80s she has no support financially, emotionally or physically. Life has been unfair in her story as she faces problems even getting two meals in a day. She was a widow and managed her life in her way.

Due to her poor condition, she didn’t have much variety of clothes so she use to wear a ripped, baggy cardigan with damaged buttons and to cover it she wears a shawl over it.

She was aged and her skin, body and body parts appear to be similar to her age. Wrinkled skin, broken teeth, unclear voice, grey hair and poor memory make her who she is. But otherwise, she was fit and fine and was taking some basic medications given by a government hospital that serves free check-ups for the needy.

Where does she live?

The house in which she was living was of her husband and after their marriage, they lived in that house. But they were not able to paint it properly as after the death of her husband she was not having that much money to complete the leftover work.

But on occasion, she cleans the house and in her manner, she tries to maintain the house. But that house was made home with the presence of family members, but today being alone she feels it to be a dark empty place and solitary for herself to dwell in.

Her family

Jellyben used to live with her family and she had five children, that is four sons and one daughter. But she remained unfortunate to get their love as the tragedy hit so hard that she lost all of them. The unexpected death of her children took away her strength of thinking and understanding as all this happened in a sudden manner.

Added to that her daughter also had a bad marriage experience and she suffered from mental trauma because of that. In the end, it took her life and due to a lack of guidance she could not save her marriage.

Jellyben had a good married life as her husband took good care of her and fulfilled her wish which was in his capacity. He didn’t have any health issues but died out of overdosage on alcohol and he was badly addicted to that. As he was the only source of income things turned out to be very difficult after his death because now she is unable to work. But she was blessed with a good neighbourhood that takes care of her in every possible manner.

Her Childhood

Jellyben had a simple childhood as she was born into a poor family and lived her entire life in poverty. Her parents could not send any of their children to school so jelly was unable to read, write and understand.

She only knew the Gujarati language. But she was a very grounded and understanding person as her parents pour good manners and taught her how should a human being behave. She was the fourth child and she was loved by everyone. But all her siblings passed away leaving her alone as she had no one alive in her family or relatives. When they were alive, even at this age they used to spend a good time with each other.

Likes and Dislikes

Jellyben had simple likings in a matter of food and preferred homemade food only. She often visited her sibling’s place and meet her brother and his wife when she was in good health. Not only that she even used to visit her brother’s children and take care of them. But now due to her age, she chooses to stay home.

With her husband, they used to watch movies in the famous theatres, known as Laxmi talkies and Vasant theatre in Navsari. But now she doesn’t remember anything but she could conclude that she enjoyed her old good days.

Message

She is terrified by her current situation and felt that hoped that it could have been better than what it was and prayed to god that others should not go through these old age miseries. She wants others’ life to be better and more enjoyable.

If she is re-born she would wish for a better life where at least she could fulfil her desires and have family members with her. The most painful thing in life is that she doesn’t have the company of any of her family members and that made her feel lonely every day. People should get what they deserve based on their hard work and efforts.
